Saturday, July 20: "Simple Pleasures" l Artist Demonstration by Jeanne Rosier-Smith in Pastel at 2pm
Reception to follow from 4:30 to 6:30 n the gallery from 5 to 7pm
Jeanne Rosier Smith’s summer solo exhibition is always a high point in the summer on Cape Cod. A master artist of Boston’s Copley Society of Art, Jeanne’s pastel paintings are representational yet lean more and more to the abstract.
“Increasingly, I’m becoming interested in the intersection of abstraction and realism between the 2-D surface of the paper and the 3-D world that I’m trying to re-create,” says Rosier Smith. “I love it when I can stand in front of a painting at different distances and have a different experience. Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida and Anders Zorn’s work is like that. You get up close and it looks abstract, but if you stand back, it looks so real. I love that effect. In the future, I want to say more with less, to keep things abstract as long as possible, put in just enough details and stop when those details are enough.”
Saturday, August 3: "Summer Scents" Artist Demonstration by Jennifer McCalmont in Oil at 2pm
Reception to follow from 4:30 to 6:30 in the gallery.
“I am in love with color. I never tire of the subtle interactions that I am looking at while painting. All the time I am trying to find the right colors and harmonize them as if they were musical notes. I strive for the most accurate depiction as possible, while creating a dimension as if you could walk into the world that is in my painting.” — Jen McCalmont
Jen is an oil painter who subscribes to the Boston School of Art’s painting style. She paints from life using defined techniques which capture the light and shadow falling upon her subject in a very skillful manner. Her demo will show this approach to her painting and provide information and expertise to viewers during several stages of a painting.
